Young Frankenstein Casting

WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!

In April, the Savannah Cabaret will be launching its most ambitious production yet, “Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein,” the West End musical adaptation of the classic movie.

We will be having open call auditions Tuesday, February 27; Wednesday, February 28; and Saturday, March 2.  All cast members are paid and are show bonus eligible.  More details below.

NOTE: All casting is race and gender neutral, however per the licensor contracts, the characters must present as the gender they were written.  For instance, a person who identifies as male may play a female character but must present as a female during the show (Frau Blucher can’t become Herr Blucher).

All cast members must be 21 years of age or older.

There is a LOT of information on this page.  READ IT!

This will be a demanding show requiring a lot of time, energy, and talent so we hope you’re up for the challenge!

SAVANNAH CABARET GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • We will always strive to create a positive, friendly, supportive, and fun environment.
    • We are not getting rich, going to Broadway, or winning any awards for these shows so if we can’t have fun, why are we doing it?
  • We adhere to a strict “no assholes” policy.
    • The only drama we want is the one we’re putting on the stage.
  • We will always be on time for rehearsal, meetings, and shows.
    • Being late is not only detrimental to the production, it’s inconsiderate of your fellow cast members and crew who did what they needed to do to be on time.
  • We will always come prepared.
    • The small amount of time we have to rehearse together must be supplemented by your own work on your own time working on your lines, lyrics, songs, and characters.
  • We will pitch in to help wherever it is needed.
    • Everyone does everything including promoting the show since the more butts in seats, the more most cast and crew gets paid.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN AUDITION INFORMATION

Audition Dates:
Tuesday, February 27 from 7-9pm
Wednesday, February 28 from 7-9pm
Saturday, March 2 from 3-5pm

Audition Location:
Club One Cabaret Showroom (2nd Floor)
1 Jefferson St. (corner of Bay)
Downtown Savannah

Audition Type:
This is an open call and walk-ins are allowed, but all auditionees are encouraged to register in advance using the form at the bottom of this page.

Audition Requirements:

  • Everyone will be required to read scenes from the show for all lead and ensemble roles.  Sides are below.  You will either be assigned a partner or someone from the creative team will read with you.
  • Prepare two (2) vocal selections of no more than 60 seconds each in the style of the show – upbeat, Broadway, jazzy, vaudeville – that shows off your vocal range.  Bring the musical accompaniment tracks in MP3 format on a PC compatible flashdrive.  A selection from the show is okay but not required.  You may also submit the MP3 ahead of time using the form below.
  • You will be asked to sing one of the selections and may be asked to sing the second.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you will be asked to learn and execute a short dance routine.
  • NOTE: We are doing the West End version of the show, which is different than the widely available Broadway version.  There are a few song changes and some of the scenes are different as well.  We have not been able to find a script (outside of the officially licensed versions we will be using) or a video of the West End version, however the cast recording is available on Apple Music, Spotify, and other major music platforms.

Liability Waiver
Please print and sign the Liability Waiver (PDF) and bring the signed copy with you to the audition.

    SHOW BONUS STRUCTURE

All cast members are eligible for being included in the show bonus pool.

IF the show makes a profit, all net profits from tickets sales only will be divided equally amongst the cast and crew participants in the pool (estimated to be 20 people).

    For illustrative purposes only:

    • Gross Profits: $42,000
    • Expenses: $34,000
    • Net Profits: $8,000
    • 50% of Net: $4,000
    • 50% of Net Divided by 20 participants: $200 each

Total compensation is therefore dependent on ticket sales, but paid cast and crew members will receive their base pay even if the show loses money.
